Calanova Golf course
Course: Calanova Golf course
Country: SPAIN, Region: Andalucia, Province: Malaga, Coast: Costa del Sol
Calanova Golf Course situated in Mijas, the valley of golf. The Calanova course is a very hilly mountain course with some elevated tees and undulated greens. The rough is not too thick and manageable if your tee shot goes wrong. Some fairways are narrow and some are wide. Watch out for the water hazard at the 18th hole. For a mountainous course the fairways are very fair.

"Greens were fragile and slow. Stepping on them made scraches easy. Maybe much of raining had made them fragile?
Rest of course good"

"Last year we rated this course as excellent
This year at best as mediocre
The greens are terrible
Far too slowand full of pitchmarks
Contrary to last year you are restricted to the path for the most part of the holes
We will not play this course again"

The putting green of Calanova Golf Club is fully available, we first opened half of it, but it is now totally opened. Just at the feet of our fantastic club house, you can practice your putting with exactly the same type of grass that we have on our greens around the course.
With this, we complete a practice zone with our driving range and putting green in which we have our Michael Campbell Golf Academy running already with high tecnology as the Trackman, K-Vest or SAM PuttLab, that your clients have in disposal to use when giving lessons in our facilities.

Our Golf Society booked to play Calanova through Golf Service on Monday 25th April on a beautiful spring day. Some Society Members found the course difficult to find and ended up at La Cala Resort but most found directions from La Cala centre very easy once you get to the inland side of the N340 cost road. Many were tempted to go on the toll road because the course can been seen on both sides of the road, this would be a costly mistake.
This unfortunately is yet another Golf Resort in the making with hundreds of empty apartments on and around the course. The Clubhouse is a temporary structure but is adequate with Bar/ Restaurant and Pro Shop. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The practice facilities before your round are very poor with a small driving range and a poor practice green that had not been cut in days, therefore no help. On the first tee we were met by a very friendly starter who warned us of the problem of valuables being taken from buggies and offered a safety box in the Club Office which is advisable as at times you can’t see your buggy from were you are playing and a buggy is a necessity at Calanova.
COURSE – The course starts with a nice dog leg left par 5 followed by four par 4’s which have a lot of blind shots. At times it is difficult to know where you are going and you believe you have hit a good shot with no reward. This is a mountain course and the ball will take a lot of unusual bounces. The greens on the day we played were not good and inconsistent some had been hollow tined a week before and the ball was not running well. We all felt the back nine was the better of the two halves with a very nice finishing hole. I had played the course before some three years ago after a sacked Greenkeeper had taken his revenge and had dug up two of the greens.
CLUBHOUSE – Very friendly and well priced as stated before it is a small temporary building with a terrace overlooking the first tee.
CONCLUSION – Calanova is a very welcoming place and the staff are very friendly and efficient. However I personally don’t like the golf course, there are too many blind shots to play. The condition of the fairways was ok but the greens were poor on the day we played. Calanova is competitively priced so will continue to attract visiting golfers.
