Flamingos is one of the most popular course among our clients. Probably one of the most spectacular club houses on the coast. The course is known for its large greens and immaculate condition. Fairways are fairly narrow. The 9th and 10th hole are the most challenging holes on the course. Fairways are sown with Bermuda grass and bunkers with marmolina sand.

Played this course with my party of 32 on Sept 18th, what a wonderful venue and views, the 1st tee gives you a great feel for the course with water on the right and trees left, tough start but what a lovely venue, tees a little used but fairways and greens lovely, has some wonderful golf holes which will test the best but also has some holes that accommodate all handicaps, greens beautiful to putt on and the 10th hole is one you will always remember, a truly lovely golf hole, all in all my group of 32 voted this just slightly behind Valle Romano, only downside was no clubhouse overlooking the 18th green but a must play, also a lovely food and drink lady who is so happy, really cheers you up after a bad shot, great course. Having not played Los Flamingos for a while I had a chance to play on a beautiful hot sunny day July 2011. Last year I did play the Alferini which did not impress me with its many blind shots. Finding Los Flamingos is not to difficult just follow the signs for Hotel Villa Padierna off the N340 at the Cancelada roundabout and Los Flamingos is part of the Resort. There is paid parking under the hotel, golf parking is past the hotel about some 250 metres away.

The complex is very large and difficult to find your way around, best advice is to go straight to the Pro Shop and they will point you in the right direction. The staff are efficient and helpful. There is a good practice putting green near the first tee, however the driving range is some way off so you really don’t have a chance to warm up. On the first tee we were greeted by the starter who pointed us in the right direction, we were then ready for our golf.

COURSE – The starting hole is a very nice par 5 with the large lake to your right, the hole is not long and straight hitting should get your round off to a good start. This is followed by a tough par 3 – 190 mts off the back tees. The front nine is pleasant test of golf and not too difficult. The back starts off with what is probably the signature hole at Flamingos, with the large lake on your left and cutting across the centre of the fairway you are unsure what club to take, added to that there is a large tree in the middle of the fairway. The course finishes with a very long nice par 4. The condition of the course on the day we played was excellent and the greens were fast and true. This is most definitely a buggy course as there are long walks between greens to tees on many holes.

CLUBHOUSE/HOTEL – There is a small bar in the member’s small clubhouse. We however did what most golfers do and had a drink on the terrace of the Villa Padierna Hotel overlooking the course. This is a 5 star hotel so expect 5 star prices however service on the terrace is far from 5 star.

CONCLUSION – We had a very good day out playing Los Flamingos and it is head and shoulders better that its sister course Alferini in my view. The course was in great condition and matures with the years. Service on the golf side is friendly and efficient however service on the terrace of the hotel is surly and inefficient and it cost an arm and a leg. I do hope Michelle Obama had better service when she stayed at the Hotel last year.
