Course: Minthis Golf course in CYPRUS Region: South Cyprus, Province: Paphos, Coast: Paphos
Minthis is a beautiful and challenging course that winds its way past a 12th-century monastery with breath-taking views of the Troodos Mountains and beyond. The 18-hole, Par 72 championship golf course boasts outstanding holes that organically follow the natural undulations of the topography, looping past water features and ancient groves, with hundreds of olive trees, fruit orchards and grapevines. As part of a Natura 2000 site, nature is an ever-present element and the Golf Club was recently the first in Cyprus to be awarded with a GEO Certification, recognising the eco-friendly sustainable approach and commitment to nature, resource conservation and community value. Designed by legendary golf architect Donald Steel in 1994 and renovated by renowned course designers Mackenzie and Ebert, the course is a flawless example of their philosophy that golf courses should fit into the terrain, be in keeping with their setting and focus on the details. They are famed for their work on the British Open Championship courses, the same design company used by the R&A for many of the courses on the Open Rota. Tom Mackenzie and his team have been instrumental in the recent course development. With their expert help, all greens have been rebuilt to conform to the sand-based USGA specification standard and the golf course reopened in spring 2021 with brand new greens and a redesigned layout. Few places are so tranquil for a friendly game, elevated tees invite everyone to “have a go”, yet narrow tree-lined fairways provide a challenge, with each shot requiring careful assessment. The opening nine holes is the more forgiving half of the course, encircling the historic monastery, vineyards, orchards and olive trees. The back nine holes are all about precision with a wonderful variety of adventures. The newly designed Par 5 10th hole is a perfect example of the challenges golfers will face. It may be difficult to concentrate when stood on the dramatically elevated tees because of the picture-perfect views of the Troodos mountains. The ultimate test is the Par 3 15th hole, with its impressive island green. Clubhouse The contemporary Clubhouse is the social heart of the golf club, enjoying fantastic views of the golf course and dramatic valley. The impressive architecture has been complemented by designer interiors and commissioned sculptures providing an ideal social atmosphere. The lounge, golf terrace and cocktail bar offer the perfect space for pre and post-game drinks, while the restaurant transforms the finest local and international ingredients into culinary delights.
Golf Academy Minthis also has a golf academy which is dedicated to creating outstanding golf learning experiences to improve your game while making it all the more enjoyable. Golf is one of the most pleasurable and fulfilling of sports, but is also one of the most challenging to learn and master without good help and guidance. Minthis Golf Academy believes in a complete approach to game improvement, covering all aspects of the game, including the full swing, the short game, course management, practice techniques, mental training and correctly fitted equipment.
"Interesting course with varied holes but nothing remarkable, too many blind holes for a first time player to the course. Played in June and fairways very dry and starting to crack, greens ok. Grass on tee boxes too long and not enough sand in the bunkers. It was fine for a holiday game of golf but a wee bit pricy for what it is and the condition of the course in summertime." - 4 Scotts
